In memoriam: Dr the Honourable Lee Shau-kee

19 March 2025

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is profoundly saddened by the passing of Dr the Honourable Lee Shau-kee, a world-renowned entrepreneur, benevolent philanthropist, and ardent supporter of HSUHK.

Dr Lee Shau-kee was the founder of Henderson Land Development Company Limited as well as its Chairman and Managing Director. Through his many endeavours, his passion for progress and commitment to the betterment of society, he actively engaged in property development and other businesses, and with his vision, transformed not just Hong Kong’s landscape, but the lives of countless people in the city and over the world.

In addition to his monumental contributions towards Hong Kong’s economic prosperity, Dr Lee was dedicated to sponsoring education in Hong Kong and overseas. HSUHK will be forever grateful for his many contributions towards the University, including his significant donation through the Lee Shau Kee Foundation in support of the University’s strategic development in 2018. To recognise Dr Lee’s contributions to the University and to education, the University named one of its buildings, the “Lee Shau Kee Complex”, in his honour and erected the first bronze bust of Dr Lee in Hong Kong in this building.

The HSUHK family deeply mourns the passing of one of Hong Kong’s most successful entrepreneurs, most generous philanthropists, and a staunch supporter of education. We are committed to keeping Dr Lee’s legacy alive through nurturing our students with competencies in critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaborations, caring attitudes, and continuous active learning.
