This module provides students with an overview of the key areas of official
statistics and ethical guidelines for statistical practice. Major topics include
data sources and quality, the legal and ethical framework of official statistics,
an introduction to demography, the collection and analysis of health, social
and economic data, data visualisation, matching and integration, and the
System of National Accounts. Applications to economics and social science
are provided. Students are also required to present their findings to their peers
and professors in a professional manner.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

1. understand the fundamental concepts, apply the probabilistic methods and assess the data quality in official statistics;


2. analyse and interpret key official statistics and indicators;


3. understand the ethical guidelines for statistical practice; and


4. utilise the techniques and methodologies used in official
   statistics for practical problems and perform statistical
   analysis with/without statistical packages, and work
   effectively in a team and solve problems logically,
   analytically, critically and independently.
