先修單元:	AMS1301 Foundations of Data Science or AMS1303 Probability and Statistics; or with the Instructor’s permission and upon endorsement of the relevant Chairperson or Programme Director.

This module provides students with the mathematical foundations of probability and statistical theories. Selected topics include elements of probability, random variables, discrete and continuous probability distributions, and multivariate probability distributions. Students are required to comprehend the most commonly used probability distributions and their relations. Central Limit Theorem and related statistical application should be well understood. Applications are also emphasised by using ample practical business problems to illustrate the principles and methods.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

1. understand the concepts and theories of probability and statistics;


2. apply the techniques of discrete and continuous probability distributions;


3. apply multivariate probability distributions; and


4. apply probabilistic methods to solve practical problems with/without the use of computer software.
