This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of advocacy and lobby. Key theories developed across those disciplines that concern the role of advocacy, lobby and policy influence will be examined. Contemporary and empirical examples of lobbying and advocacy from political, public health, social and environmental sectors will be discussed. Through academic reading and practitioners’ sharing, students are encouraged link theoretical framework with empirical practice.

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

1. understand the role and policy influence of advocacy and lobbying;


2. distinguish major theories, strategies and tactics of advocacy and lobbying;


3. critically analyse and apply contemporary and empirical examples of advocacy and lobbying in political, public health, social and environmental contexts; and


4. develop strategic plans for advocacy and lobbying through the planning process and action mode.
