A group of 30 teachers and students from the School of Communication, led by Dr Sobel Chan, Dr Connie Chan, and Ms Janice Wong, visited Bloomberg’s Hong Kong Bureau on 13 April. The group was warmly welcomed the global financial data and media company.
The visit included a tour to Bloomberg’s various departments including the news, data, analytics, and technology departments. The group also observed Bloomberg’s state-of-the-art television production facilities. Mr Adrian Wong, Senior Producer and Multimedia Reporter explained the daily routine of the newsroom and emphasised the importance of being curious and asking questions beyond job specifics to the students.
Ms Jinshan Hong, Bloomberg’s Hong Kong Deputy Bureau Chief discussed her storytelling techniques and showcased some of her award-winning stories. Students were particularly interested in her sources, story ideas, and the techniques used to gather information.
The visit was eye-opening and allowed students to better understand practical operations in the industry, enabling them to broaden their horizons in the field of financial journalism. Additionally, the visit was yet another success for the School in its ongoing efforts to provide students with as many opportunities as possible better understand and make connections in the industry.
