15 December 2021
The School of Communication (SCOM) held its second teaching sharing seminar of AY2021/22 on 15 December 2021. Dr Wendy Chan, Assistant Professor; Mr Earnest Li, Part-time Lecturer; and Mr Stanley Yuen, Part-time Lecturer, were invited to share their teaching experience gained in this semester. The sharing session was moderated by Dr Keith Cheung, Associate Professor, who he expressed heartfelt thanks to all the participating teachers. Special gratitude went to the part-time teachers who deliberately made a trip to the campus amid their busy schedules. Dr Cheung said that the School’s programmes emphasised both theory and practice. As such, while full-time teachers mainly teach core theory modules, it is crucial to have part-time teachers who are themselves elites from industry to teach practice-based modules. In this way, not only can students learn practical hands-on skills in the practice-based modules, but they can also get to know more about the latest developments and requirements in the industry, which will benefit their future career development. During the meeting, the participating professors and lecturers discussed the challenges they faced in teaching and learning after the resumption of face-to-face classes, including the difficulties students encountered when completing their assessments. They also shared various cases and their tips of tackling them. The enthusiastic discussion and sharing inspired all teachers who participated in the seminar and contributed to the continuous improvement of the teaching quality of the School.
