As the inaugural event of the Council Chairman Bowl 2020/2021, the E-Sports competition was held on 17 October 2020.
With the huge support from Dr Moses Cheng, HSUHK Council Chairman, the Council Chairman Bowl was kicked off in 2017/2018. Five competitions are held every year and each RC will send representatives to join and fight for the Council Chairman Bowl. Since 2017, the Evergreen College has won the championship for 3 years in a row. Therefore, President Ho presented the Council Chairman Bowl to the Evergreen College for their permanent display at their RC before the commencement of the event.
The University specially organised this competition in the e-sports format with the aim of preventing the spread of the pandemic. In the event, President Simon Ho, who is a tennis lover, played Mario Tennis and enjoyed the activity together with the student residents. He thought that although e-sports could not replace outdoor sports, it enabled players to practice at home anytime to improve the skills.
Over 20 student residents fought for the glory of their Residential Colleges (RCs) in the competition, while RC members could support them through watching live streaming on the YouTube channel. After various rounds of games, S H HO Wellness College won the first competition. Players from S H HO Wellness College believed that their good teamwork and repeated practice before the competition led them to the championship and they looked forward to another victory. Their RC Master Dr Paul Fung also said he had very confidence in them.
The second Council Chairman Bowl Competition ‘Fitness Challenge’ will be held in November. RC residents are encouraged to participate in it and win the honour for their RCs!
