After graduation, Tank worked as a photographer at Sing Tao Daily, and is currently working as a Teaching Assistant who teaches some Form 3 Chinese lessons (including non-Chinese speaking students), edits teaching materials, and handle other administrative works. Throughout the 4-year studies in HSUHK, he built up solid academic foundation of Chinese literature, linguistics and phonetics. The knowledge acquired in the University facilitates his teaching, allowing him to make judgement and focus on the topics that suit his students the most. He can also use his own experience as references, in order to spot the weaknesses of students’ Chinese learning. Besides, he is glad that he had experiences in operational issues and administrative works when he was studying in HSUHK, which helps a lot when he copes with similar duties now.

Kwan Lun now works as a civilian staff. The language knowledge and computer skills he learnt at HSUHK can be applied in his current post. Also, with his keen interest in Chinese, he is now pursuing a Master Degree in Chinese in the CUHK to continue his studies with good language foundation in the past 4 years. Besides, he enjoys reading and writing the classical literature during leisure time to achieve a work-life balance.

Michelle would like to express her gratitude to HSUHK teachers for their guidance, as she learnt so much professional knowledge and so many practical skills in her four-year studies here. She found the learning experience fruitful. She is grateful to be able to apply what she learnt such as practical writing and data analysis in the workplace. She will keep on working hard for her personal growth and career, keeping teachers’ guidance and encouragement in mind, and hopes that she can contribute to the society.

Studying English Literature with Creative Writing, the University of Manchester
Heidy graduated from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English in 2019 and she has furthered her education at the University of Manchester studying English Literature with Creative Writing in hopes of becoming an author in the near future. During the four years in HSUHK, she received the Academic Achievement Scholarship, the Academic Excellence Scholarship, and two Best Progress Awards (2017-2018 and 2018-2019 respectively); she was also on the Dean’s List for two consecutive years (2017-2018 and 2018-2019).
The time at HSUHK was valuable and rewarding to Heidy. The courses covering a wide range of topics helped to cultivate her passion on different literary and linguistics subjects. She thinks the teachers were open to discussions and often provided helpful insights. As a result, she not only gained knowledge but also confidence and direction regarding her future endeavours.

Erica participated in the HSMC International Internship Programme and worked at Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences in Sydney during the winter of 2016. After graduating from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English in 2017, Erica took part in the Disney International Program and worked as a Cultural Representative at Walt Disney World in the United States. She has then joined RedBox Storage as a Marketing Executive.
Erica thinks that HSMC gave her opportunities to reach out and experience different cultures. The diversity of the programme encouraged her to explore different elements of English and languages in terms of literature and linguistics, from Shakespeare to Chomsky. The encouragements, opportunities and guidance from the professors have led and prepared her to explore all the international paths and gain fruitful experiences.

Patrick received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English with Upper Second-Class Honour in 2017. He also received Mrs C K Tsui Scholarship from Lutheran Church – Hong Kong Synod in the same year. During his undergraduate study, he worked for different government departments and statutory bodies such as Census and Statistics Department, Efficiency Unit (1823) and Equal Opportunities Commission as Part-time Staff/Summer Intern.
After graduation, he worked as a Training & Development Officer at the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers to liaise with over 200 Engineering Companies including government departments in the monitoring of the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training. He is currently a Project Officer (BUD) at the Hong Kong Productivity Council.

Patsy graduated from the BA-ENG programme in 2016. During the four years of study, Patsy took part in an exchange programme in Gordon College, Boston, USA and an internship in Beijing, China. She also gained a voluntary teaching experience in an English summer camp which inspired her to pursue a teaching career.
After graduation, Patsy obtained a PGDE at CUHK and is currently studying an MA in Applied Linguistics at HKU. She is also working as an English teacher at a local primary school.
Patsy thinks the Literature and Linguistics courses nourished her analytic skills. On the one hand, the literary works enabled her to critique and evaluate them in different aspects. On the other hand, the linguistics courses consolidated her understanding of the English language and prepared her for exploring the relationship between human and language in the postgraduate studies. With the consolidation of English language provided by the courses in the programme, she was able to find her academic and career path at ease.

Lester graduated from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English in 2016. During his undergraduate studies, Lester developed a genuine interest in English studies and linguistics. He then studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he obtained an MA in Linguistics in 2017.
After his postgraduate study, Lester started off as a part-time research assistant at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages of CUHK. Currently, Lester is working as a Teaching Associate in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, delivering English and Communication modules to students of Higher Diploma and Diploma of Foundation Studies.

Rhett graduated from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English programme in 2016 with First Class Honours. He had been on the Dean’s List for four years (2013-2016) and received the Distinguished Award and Academic Achievement Award. Rhett worked as an intern in the summer of 2013 for the Commercial Press (HK) Limited to experience the preparation of teaching materials. After graduation, he also obtained an MA in Applied English Linguistics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Rhett has worked in various tertiary institutions after his graduation, teaching courses related to general English, workplace/business English, academic English, and linguistics. In August 2019, he was appointed as a Lecturer in his alma mater, HSUHK, where he can impart his knowledge to the next generations of English learners in the University. He is honoured to return to teach in HSUHK, in which he established and practiced his passion for teaching.
