HSUHK has once again made its mark on the global stage and achieved impressive results at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. Dr George Ho, Associate Professor at the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, School of Decision Sciences, won the Silver Award for his collaborative research project with Chef Digital Limited, supported by the Research Matching Grant Scheme of the University Grants Committee.
The winning project, “OPlusO Hub: Event Management in the Metaverse” combines offline and online event management with AI-driven visitor behaviour analysis. The project proposes three phases for an event, Pre-Event, During-Event, and After-Event. The first phase involves encouraging attendees to register with an avatar to represent them in the Metaverse using facial recognition and the GenAi Kiosk concept. The second phase looks at participation in both virtual and physical events. Audiences can enter the Metaverse Event Platform using avatars to move around the exhibition hall, listen to talks, and visit booths, neglecting physical constraints. On the other hand, Indoor Positioning Services (IPS) are applied. This facilitates the direction of attendees to booths based on their interests, thereby providing a personalised experience. In the third phase, data processing and visualisation analyse the participants’ behaviours by using technologies such as IPS and Big data. This allows the organisers to benchmark their performance against other events and see how they can improve future events.
This award-winning project exemplifies HSUHK’s commitment to knowledge exchange, translating research and innovation outcomes into impactful solutions for society.
