A three-day Jiangmen Visit (16 – 18 March) was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Overseas Chinese Association, the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Fellowship Association (hereinafter referred to as the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Federation) and the School of Communication of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. The Dean of the School of Communication (SCOM), Professor Scarlet Tso, led 17 teachers and students throughout the journey, during which they learned to appreciate the history, culture and development of Jiangmen as the homeland of the Overseas Chinese in China, as well as gained a deeper understanding of the development opportunities for young people in the Greater Bay Area. They also gained insight into the work of the legislative branch of the People’s Congress of Jianghai District and learned more about the government’s policy to support young people from Hong Kong and Macau to work or start a business in Jiangmen.
Forty-five delegates from the Hong Kong Jiangmen Wuyi Federation and SCOM of HSUHK arrived in Jiangmen were warmly received by the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City. Ms Chunhui Lin, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City, engaged in a cordial conversation with the delegation and encouraged young people to consider Jiangmen for work opportunities and start their business there to further develop the Jianghai District together.
Accompanied by staff members from the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese of Jiangmen City, the delegation visited various landmarks, including Jianghaifazhi Square, the Exhibition Hall of Qiaomengyuan, the Overseas Chinese Museum in the Overseas Chinese Capital of China, Mingxing Park, and Qimingli Lane in Pengjiang District across three districts under the administration of the Jiangmen Municipality – Pengjiang, Jianghai and Xinhui. They also visited Jiangmen Radio and Television Station and Wuyi University. At Wuyi University, they observed the Overseas Chinese Culture Exhibition Hall of the Institute for Guangdong Qiaoxiang Studies, the Sino-German Artificial Intelligence Learning Hall, and the Modern Industrial Production Technology Comprehensive Training Centerto learn more about Jiangmen’s contemporary history and development. They also engaged in discussions with teachers and students from Wuyi University’s School of Economics and Management and the School of Arts, with the aim to develop future cooperation between SCOM of HSUHK and Wuyi University. To learn more about the overseas Chinese enterprises in Jiangmen, the delegation also visited Lee Kum Kee (Xinhui) Food Company Limited, attended the “Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Great Bay Area Salon” held by Jiangmen Overseas Young Chinese Sectors, and visited the Live Broadcast of Guangdong Yuexinyi Technology Company Limited.
The excellent organisation and coordination of the trip was thoughtfully planned and strongly supported by various units in Jiangmen. It greatly deepened the understanding of the region’s history and opportunities for teachers and students from HSUHK’s School of Communication.
