To enhance communications between parents and HSMC, and to introduce the College’s latest development and campus life, the Student Affairs Office organised the President’s Reception for Parents, Teachers and Students on 6 Oct 2018 as the finale of the Students Orientation Series 2018.
Over 280 parents, students and staff participated in this annual event. The reception started with a welcoming remark and an introduction of the College’s latest development by President Simon S M Ho. The Parents’ Forum – When Our Child Becomes a University Student followed, hosted by Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs. At the forum, Ms Joanna Kwok, parent of a HSMC student cum Director of Executive Development Centre; Dr Dacon Dai, Counsellor and Ms Ruby Chim, BBA-SCM Year 2 student shared their views and experiences of adapting to life in university. Mr Daniel Cheung (BBA-CG), a fresh graduate in 2018, also shared his fruitful and challenging campus life at HSMC.
President Ho addressed that by adopting the unique “Liberal + Professional” education model, the learning experience at HSMC is characterised by small-class teaching and close teacher-student relations. The College puts quality teaching and students’ all-round development as its highest priorities, aiming at nurturing young talents with leadership skills and a caring heart. HSMC was the first self-financed higher education institution in Hong Kong to adopt a Residential College system to create a “living and learning” environment, and to provide students with holistic learning experiences.
Special sessions were arranged for parents to talk to academic staff and students for a better understanding of the curriculum and support to students in their study. Guided campus tours by Student Ambassadors were arranged for parents to visit different teaching and learning facilities as well as the award-winning green buildings.
