26 October 2019
Organised by Peer Mentors and co-organised by Student Affairs Office, Mental Health Series themed “Let’s 鬆 Zone”, the first of its kind in the University, were held from 3 to 26 October.
The diverse programmes ranged from a talk by Dr Vitti Ip, a clinical psychologist; a featured presentation on the topic “Be at Peace with Yourself” by Dr Nelson Kong, Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, at College Assembly – HSUHK Liberal Agora; and Mental Health First Aid Certificate Course for staff and teachers; to busking and sing along; plant making and decoration workshop; yoga stretch class and wellness information booths which were organised by Peer Mentors. External NGOs including Stewards Youth Online, Suicide Prevention Services, Evergreen Lutheran Centre and Playground Association were introduced to all students and staff during the weeks at different corners of the campus and Residential Colleges. All these programmes and activities aimed to positively raise students and staff’s awareness of mental health by introducing ways to deal with stress to maintain good quality of rest and sleep.
The Mental Health Series ended with a physical workout on 26 October with staff of PE Unit and 8 students participating in the “Run for Wellness” organised by Hong Kong Federation Youth Groups for a 4.2 Km run at Kai Tak Cruse Terminal.
All programmes were well received by participants and their feedbacks were very positive and encouraging. Many students reflected that these programmes could help them understand more about mental health and release their stress.
Kudos go to the team of Peer Mentors and our Counsellors for staging such meaningful events for the University!
