20 August 2022
The Joint School Advisory Committees Meeting cum Retreat of School of Communication (SCOM) of the academic year 2021/22 was held on 20 August 2022 at Royal Plaza Hotel. In addition to SCOM’s staff members, External Advisors, External Examiners and Part-time Lecturers of its three programmes were invited to join the event. Participants reviewed SCOM’s developments in the past year and explored its path ahead.
Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of SCOM, gave an overview of SCOM’s achievements in the past year, including programme development, School events, student intake, student awards, etc. The distinguished guests were invited to share their views and suggestions regarding teaching and learning, and opportunities for and development plans of SCOM. The Advisors and Examiners, the majority of whom being key members of enterprises or higher education institutions, provided SCOM with many insightful recommendations on various aspects, such as teaching and learning enhancement and teacher and student development, from the perspectives of real-life business operation, and with reference to the good practices of other universities.
Professor Ronald Chiu, Associate Dean of SCOM, then led the discussion session, during which the guests explored in depth three topics, namely ‘Capitalising on Emerging Communication Technologies: Grooming of Communication Professions with Technology Competencies to Meet New Market Demands’, ‘Developments in the Greater Bay Area: Opportunities and Challenges’ and ‘Enhancement of Exposure and External Relations’. SCOM was deeply inspired by the creative and pertinent ideas put forward by the guests in their animated exchanges. Professor Chiu remarked that SCOM’s various committees would further discuss and consider each of the suggestions in detail, with a view to continually enhancing SCOM’s teaching quality while strengthening its programme development.
The event concluded with a joyful lunch, over which the guests and staff members continued their exchanges under a relaxed atmosphere after the discussion session.
