Organised by The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK)’s Global Humanities Initiative (GHI) and the Asian New Humanities Network (ANHN), the International Conference on Food Culture in Asia took place at HSUHK from 16 to 17 May 2024.
Scholars from America, Europe, Asia, and Hong Kong gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges on Asian food culture. They explored the intricate relationship between food and social, political, and economic development, approaching the subject from various interdisciplinary perspectives such as anthropology, philosophy, literature, linguistics, culture, history, and aesthetics.
Over the course of the two-day conference, scholars and researchers shared their expertise and insights, enriching attendees’ understanding, and inspiring new research avenues on food culture in Asia.
The conference received support from the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH), McGill University, as well as various units within HSUHK, including the School of Translation and Foreign Languages, the School of Communication, the Department of Art and Design, the Common Core Curriculum Office, and the Institute for Youth Sustainability Leadership.
