Since its inception, the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards has honoured distinguished teachers who demonstrate outstanding teaching performance and contribution to learning. To recognise their achievement and promote the scholarship of teaching and learning, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) cordially invites the seven HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards Recipients in the academic year 2021-22 to speak at a series of sharing seminars, which will be held from February to April 2023.
The first seminar “Cultivating Motivation: Strategies to Foster Student Learning” was held on 2 February 2023, co-facilitated by Dr Winnie Chan Wing-yin, Lecturer from the Department of Marketing, Dr Baldwin Wong Bon-wah, Former Assistant Professor from the Department of Social Science, and Mr Justin Yum Chin-fung , Part-time Lecturer from the Department of Computing.
The seminar was hosted by Dr Ben Cheng Ka-ming, Director of CTL. Professor Hui Yer-van, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) was invited to deliver a welcome speech at the opening. Professor Hui expressed his sincere gratitude to the seven awardees for their concerted effort, excellence and enthusiasm in teaching within the HSUHK community in addition to their consistent care and love towards HSUHK students.
At the seminar, the three award recipients shared their practices of fostering learning and motivating students. In addition, they showcased how TV drama and animation can arouse learning interest and shared how teacher-student and mentor-mentee relationships can build rapport and trust to achieve positive academic outcomes. The seminar was attended by 30 academic members.
At the same occasion, CTL launched its fifth issue of “My Teaching Story”, which gathered inspirational stories shared by the seven Teaching Excellence Awards Recipients (2021-22).
