The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) received “Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2018/19” inaugurated by The Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), which manifested its efforts on sustainability in the past year. HSUHK is the only private university receiving this prestigious award. Over 600 guests, including local business and organisation leaders and representatives, attended the award presentation ceremony held on 11 Nov 2019. Mr Sin-yung Wong, Manager (Communications) of the Communications and Public Affairs Office, accepted the award on behalf of HSUHK.
Through a holistic approach, the “Hong Kong Sustainability Award” brings recognition to organisations, business leaders and sustainability experts that have demonstrated due consideration to the economic, social, and environmental aspects of sustainability while achieving good business and organisational performance. The award is developed by a pool of business leaders and sustainability experts, and the assessment approach of the Award matches Hong Kong’s business environment. The Award advocates cross-sector sharing of best practices of sustainability, inspires organisations to entrench sustainability into their operation and culture with the aim of achieving long-term business sustainability.
The panel of judges assesses participating organisations based on four aspects, namely “Management Commitment and Stakeholder Engagement”, “Key Elements of Sustainability”, “Innovation” and “Impact of Sustainability Measures or Initiatives on Business / Organisational Performance or on the Society”. HSUHK is the only university achieves this honour among the participating enterprises.
HSUHK has been embarking on a long-term development plan with the goal of becoming a leading private university since 2010. It is the first among the higher education institutions in Hong Kong to achieve the final “Platinum” rating, the highest standard awarded by the BEAM Plus Assessment Scheme of the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) for its commitment to applying environmental measures in academic buildings, the Lee Shau Kee Complex, residential halls and facilities.
To address the United Nation’s 17 sustainable development goals, HSUHK has set up The Institute for Youth Sustainability Leadership, which aims to be a hub sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources of sustainability development with various stakeholders in the wider community.
