The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) announces the appointment of Professor Sam Seung-ho Park as the Dean of the School of Business with effect from 1 November 2024.
Professor Park is currently the President’s Chair and Professor in Strategy and International Business and the Director of the Nanyang Centre for Emerging Markets at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Before joining NTU in 2019, he was Dean of the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University, USA. Professor Park’s distinguished academic career includes positions at several prestigious institutions, such as Rutgers University in the USA, China Europe International Business School, Moscow School of Management Skolkovo in Russia, Samsung Economic Research Institute China, University of Texas-Dallas and University of Oregon in the USA, City University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Professor Park earned his PhD and MA degrees from the University of Oregon, USA and a BA degree from Han Yang University, Korea. He is an elected fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and is internationally recognised as an outstanding scholar making significant contributions to bridging research, practice, and policy communities, particularly in emerging markets.
His research has been published in world leading management journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Management Sciences, Journal of International Business Studies, etc. He has co-authored several influential books on emerging markets including the award-winning Rough Diamonds: Four Traits of Successful Breakout Enterprises in BRIC Countries (2013).
In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Park has played a pivotal role in global academic communities, serving key positions within the Academy of Management and serving on the editorial and advisory boards of several major journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of International Business Studies. He has organised influential international conferences and forums in China and Russia and is a frequent speaker at corporate meetings and international forums. Professor Park has received awards including the Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award (2015), the Journal of International Business Studies Silver Medal (2019), and was included in Standford’s list of the world’s top 2% most cited scholars in business and management (2020).
