Co-hosted by HSUHK’s Centre for Teaching and Learning (E-Learning Section), School of Business, and Library, the seminar on ‘Exploring the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education: Opportunities, Challenges, and Ethics’ was held on 17 May 2023, and attended by over 70 staff members.
Mr Dick Chan, Senior Learning Technologist from the Education Developmental Centre at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited to be the guest speaker at the seminar. Alongside Mr Kelvin Wan, Senior Instructional Designer of the E-Learning Section at The Centre for Teaching and Learning, Mr Chan provided an informative overview of ChatGPT, its alternatives and other AI detection tools.
Mr Michael Cheng, Librarian at HSUHK, shared insights on AI-assisted teaching, learning, and research. The seminar also featured a panel discussion moderated by Professor Bradley Barnes, Dean of the School of Business at HSUHK; panelists included Professor Lianxi Zhou and Mr Roy Ying, who discussed ethical considerations, challenges, and opportunities of integrating generative AI in higher education.
The seminar provided an interactive platform for the University’s academic staff members from different departments to come together and share their thoughts on generative AI in higher education. The discussions not only facilitated collaboration and knowledge sharing among attendees, but also inspired the University to explore more ways to integrate AI technology into future teaching and learning initiatives.
