The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) has received generous donations from Dr Yip Kit-chuen to support its development. In recognition of Dr Yip’s commitment to HSUHK, an Appreciation and Naming Ceremony of Yip Kit Chuen and Yuen Yuk Hing Hall was held on 18 October 2024.
Officiating guests included Dr Yip; his eldest son Dr Daniel Yip and his third son Mr Thomas Yip; Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of the HSUHK Council; Dr Patrick Poon, Governor and Chairman of the Fundraising and Donation Committee, HSUHK; and Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK. Dr Yip’s family, friends, and distinguished guests also attended the ceremony.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr Moses Cheng highlighted Dr Yip’s unwavering support for the development of HSUHK over the years, as well as his significant contribution to cultivating local talent and enhancing the prosperity of society. He said, “Dr Yip’s dedication to nurturing talent in both Hong Kong and Mainland China is highly appreciated and admired. His continued support for HSUHK serves as a testament to the recognition and affirmation of our University and inspires all of us. In the future, the University will continue to strive to advance in gratitude for Dr Yip and the support of all sectors of society.”
Addressing the audience, Dr Yip reviewed his long-standing connection with HSUHK, which has spanned over a decade. He firmly believed in the principle of “taking from society, giving back to society”, and is dedicated to nurturing talent for fostering the prosperity of both Hong Kong and Mainland China. Dr Yip concluded his remark by stating “I support HSUHK’s unique education model of ‘Liberal + Professional’ and I look forward to collaborating with the University to contribute to the education sector.”
President Ho expressed his gratitude to Dr Yip for his ardent support and guidance to HSUHK. He also acknowledged the continued support of Dr Yip’s family, including his eldest son, Dr Daniel Yip. President Ho said the donation is significant for the University’s campus development plan, which greatly benefits staff and students.
President Ho further stated “HSUHK is a non-profit private university and that relies on the support of enthusiastic individuals from various sectors for its continued development. In appreciation of Dr Yip’s trust in HSUHK, the University will continue to enhance the quality of teaching and research, introduce more innovative programmes and pedagogy, and actively explore students’ potential while supporting their holistic learning, thereby injecting new momentum into society.”
