14 July 2021
The First Open Forum hosted by the HSUHK Global Humanities Initiative (GHI) was held on 14 July 2021. Three guest speakers, Dr Kim-fan Wong, Mr Ho-chuen Kwan and Mr Rubio Chan were invited to join the event together with our faculty members of the GHI, including Professor Scarlet Tso, Professor Desmond Hui, Dr Shelby Chan, Dr Christine Choy and Dr Charles Lam.
In the Open Forum titled ‘No Travel, No Life? / ! / . /…’, the invited guests and speakers shared their experiences and discussed the meaning of travelling beyond consumption and enjoyment. Under the premise of the global pandemic and travel restrictions, speakers reflected on how travelling enriches our lives and provides escape from our everyday routines. In particular, being abroad in less familiar places allows us to experience the differences across cultures and to learn about the world as well as ourselves.
The discussion was enhanced by the active participation of over a hundred audience through an online platform. Their questions and comments made the evening event an interactive and intellectual experience.
