To recognise the teaching excellence and innovative pedagogy of academic staff at HSMC, the College first launched the HSMC Teaching Excellence Awards in 2014/15 academic year.
In 2016/17, six distinguished academic staff were selected to receive the awards. The award presentation was held during the Graduation Ceremony on 15 Nov 2017 to acknowledge the achievement of distinguished teachers.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Staff Development Committee jointly organise a series of sharing seminars by the award recipients to promote good teaching practices at the College.
The first seminar was held on 12 Jan 2018. Professor Y V Hui, Vice-President (Academic and Research), gave an opening remark to congratulate the award recipients on their dedication and outstanding achievements in teaching.
Dr Willy Yue, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Computing, and Mr Stanley Zel, Lecturer of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, delivered talks on the topics “Give a Lecture to Your N Years Old Kids” and “Teaching Science to Non-Science Students” respectively. Dr Yue and Mr Zel shared their teaching pedagogies and experience with the audience and provided many practical and inspiring examples of engaging students in learning. During the Q&A session, participants raised questions and actively took part in exchange with the speakers.
