21 August 2018
With the theme “Student Learning FIRST”, Student Orientation Day 2018 was held on 21 Aug 2018. HSMC values the all-round development of students and spares no efforts to provide transformational learning experience for students’ intellectual and personal growth. Over 1,300 participants, including new students, senior year students, as well as academic and administrative staff took part in the activity. Some 1,000 new students participated in different events and received important information to kick-start their campus life at HSMC.
In the opening session, President Simon S M Ho gave a warm welcome to the new students; followed by a sharing by Provost Gilbert Fong on HSMC’s latest development. Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs, encouraged the new students to seize every opportunity to learn during their study at HSMC. School sessions and academic programme sessions were arranged for the new students to obtain essential information on their study and meet their teachers and fellow classmates.
The new students also participated in different activities to better understand HSMC and build connections. These activities included:
- “恒薈”, organised by the Students’ Union to provide information on orientation activities of different student societies
- Student Life Fair, introducing sports teams, voluntary services opportunities, HSMC Sinfonietta, etc and arranging booth for photo-taking
- Campus Hunt, including a tour to the Library and the Sports and Amenities Centre, HSMC’s Got Talent and games organised by Student Programme Officers at different buildings on campus
- Senior Intake Student Sharing Session, a session tailor-made for senior intake students with sharing by Counsellors and current students who are Year 2 or Year 3 intake, and information about exchange and career related programmes
More than 180 senior year students served as Campus Life Mentors on the event day to assist new students in adapting to their campus life.
