The HSMC Graduation Ceremony 2017 was held on 15 Nov 2017. Over 800 graduates were conferred bachelor’s degree in the disciplines of Business Administration, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Translation, Journalism, Communications, Supply Chain Management, Management Science and Information Management, and English, and 61 of them were awarded First Class Honours. Ms Rose Lee, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College, and Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of the College Council, were invited to officiate at the ceremony. Board and Council members, distinguished guests, President of HSMC and his team of academics also attended the ceremony to share the joy of the graduates and congratulate them on their achievements.

President Simon S M Ho emphasised in his speech that university education is not only about passing on the knowledge and skills that could enable one to get a good job but much more importantly, it is about the development of humanistic quality, caring attitude, values and sense of satisfaction among students. He further encouraged the graduates to hold on to their values, instead of following others’ footsteps or living up to other people’s expectations.

Dr Moses Cheng, Chairman of the College Council, also congratulated the graduates on their hard work and achievements. “Never stop learning, exploring, growing and challenging yourself to be your very best,” Dr Cheng told the graduates.

The College also presented the HSMC Teaching Excellence Awards 2016/17 at the Graduation Ceremony to six distinguished teachers who have demonstrated outstanding performance in teaching, dedication to continuous improvement in pedagogy, and made a distinguished contribution to teaching and learning. The award recipients included Dr Eden Chow from the Department of Accountancy, Mr Bryan David Dowie from the Department of English, Mr Lawrence Leung from the School of Translation, Ms Betty Poon from the Department of Economics and Finance, Dr Willy Yue from the Department of Computing and Mr Stanley Zel from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
