9 November 2017
The HSMC G-20 2017 was organised by the Provost’s Office in association with the Hong Kong-America Center. It was a College-wide inter-programme activity that spanned two months from Sep to Nov 2017. The activity culminated in the Summit Simulation held on 9 Nov 2017.
More than 100 HSMC students from different undergraduate programmes participated in the simulation to play the roles of G-20 leaders (20 member states) to deal with global issues. Each team represented a G-20 member state and students played the roles of Head of State, Foreign Minister, Finance Minister and Environment Minister. An “HSMC G-20 Online Discussion Platform” and an “HSMC G-20 Facebook Page” were established to facilitate discussion and communication among the 20 teams. Through the G-20 activities, students gained a good understanding of international affairs and developed skills in multilateral negotiations, public speaking, team building strategies and diplomacy.
