15 April 2021
The Graduation Ceremony for the graduate classes of 2019 and 2020 of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages (STFL) was held on 15 April 2021. Senior management of the University and members of the STFL gathered at the ceremony to celebrate the graduates’ joy and achievement after years of endeavour.
Professor Simon Ho, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong officiated at the ceremony and delivered a speech to the graduates. He encouraged graduates to hold on to their characteristics and unleash their potential.
Professor Gilbert Fong, Dean of the STFL, expressed his warmest congratulations to all graduates. Having witnessed their progress through the four-year study at the HSUHK, Professor Fong remarked that the graduates have already possessed the potential to be successful and should be self-confident. Yet they should stay humble and curious to acquire new knowledge and respect views from others. Professor Fong concluded his speech with two quotes, ‘Be self-confident but not full of yourself’ and ‘Success is not the monopoly of the succeeded’.
The valedictorian, Ms Claudia Yu, extended her gratitude to the teachers, her family and friends for their unfailing support and encouragement. She learnt a lot from the teachers, not only translation knowledge, but also lessons about life. In times of challenges and uncertainties, Claudia opined that only knowledge and conscience would guide the way ahead.
The ceremony was well-attended by about 180 graduates and guests. More than 100 graduates were awarded the degrees of Master of Arts in Translation (Business and Legal), Master of Arts in Translation (Computer-Aided Translation) or Bachelor of Translation with Business (Honours).
Graduates celebrate the memorable moments with teachers, families and friends.
