Flora and Fauna in the Urban Jungle – Paintings by Human Ip

28 March 2018

Arts at HSMC  presented “Flora and Fauna in the Urban Jungle – Paintings by Human Ip” from 6 to 28 Mar 2018 on M/F, Lee Quo Wei Academic Building. Human Ip is a writer and painter who also engages herself in nature-oriented work. Her water colour and lacquer paintings of Hong Kong native plants and animals were on exhibit. These flora and fauna, some recorded in ancient literatures, form an integral part of the Hong Kong ecosystem.

Ip came to HSMC for the opening on 6 Mar 2018. In an interview, she said that her favourite plant was Hong Kong Dogwood, which was mentioned in ancient literatures as a guiding light to people who went astray. Ip said the flower also lit up her way in times of lost and frustration.

Two sessions of “Meet the Artist” were held on 19 and 20 Mar 2018, during which Ip shared with the audience her aspirations of literature and art, creative ideas and experiences in nature-oriented work such as guiding eco tours. Guided visit to the exhibition “Flora and Fauna in the Urban Jungle” by Ip was also arranged.

Ip introduced her paintings of Hong Kong native plants and animals.
