The 2018 External Advisors and External Examiners Meeting cum Retreat of SCOM was held on 7 July 2018. External Advisors from the SCOM Advisory Committee, the BJC Advisory Committee and the BA-CMCT Advisory Committee as well as full-time and part-time academic staff and the administrative team of the School participated in the activity for a forward-looking exchange of views on the development of the School.
Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of the School of Communication, extended welcoming remarks to all guests and expressed her deep appreciation of the contribution and continuing support from all External Advisors, External Examiners and academic staff.
Professor Tso reported on the new developments of the School and achievements of staff and students in the academic year 2017-18. She also shared her views on the challenges and opportunities facing the School. After that, Professor James Chang and Professor Trevor Siu, Programme Directors of the Bachelor of Journalism and Communication programme and the Bachelor of Arts in Convergent Media and Communication Technology programme, highlighted the academic performance of students and introduced the future plans for the programmes. Professor Paul Lee, Chairperson of the Programme Development Committee of the Master of Arts in Strategic Communication programme, also updated the participants on the latest and planned developments of the programme.
External Advisors and External Examiners provided valuable suggestions and comments for enhancement of teaching and learning quality as well as programme development while academic staff shared their teaching experience. As the climax of the activity, Professor Tso started a discussion session on the directions of development of the School in the next five years. Views and insights were enthusiastically shared by guests and staff.
After the meeting, all guests and staff enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing lunch at the Chinese restaurant of Hang Seng Management College.
