23 November 2020
For the purpose of promoting further understanding of the developments and challenges brought about by the development of social media and communication technology to digital content and the communication and entertainment industries, Professor Trevor Siu, Programme Director of the BA (Hons) in Convergent Media and Communication Technology (BA-CMCT), and Mr Rex Ma, iGen6 Managing Director and Part-time Lecturer, led a group of BA-CMCT Year 3 students of the School of Communication to visit the K11 Art House on 23 November 2020, providing them with an opportunity to learn directly from the valuable experience shared by Mr Ivan Wong, the UA Cinemas Managing Director.
After introducing the glamourous UnionPay IMAX laser house and the Blackbox house for high-end VIP experience in the K11 Art House, Mr Ivan Wong gave an informative presentation to the students in the Whitebox multi-purpose house regarding the impact of COVID-19 on cinemas, the status quo for Hong Kong’s film industry chain, and the influence of social media and communication technology on the development of the creative industry. In the Q&A session, students engaged fully and exchanged views with Mr Wong actively. Mr Wong then further explained how the digital transformation process is continuously shaping a world of changing customer needs and demands for new experiences of media consumption and entertainment. Such changes indeed reflect the possible career paths that BA-CMCT students can pursue through mastering the multi-faceted knowledge and skills in the fields of convergent media and communication technology.
