The “Along with the President” Series #9: Hiking from Lion Rock Park to So Uk was held on 24 Nov 2018. President Simon S M Ho, 16 students and three colleagues from the President’s Office and the PE Unit of Student Affairs Office gathered at Chuk Yuen Estate, where they set off to the Lion Rock Park, the starting point of the hike.
From the Lion Rock Park, the team entered Section 5 of MacLehose Trail and started moving uphill. The narrow trail consisted of muddy path and rocky stairs with some dense vegetation. The team headed towards Beacon Hill until they arrived at the Beacon Hill Lookout. Despite the slightly foggy weather, it was a vantage point from where they enjoyed a sweeping view of Kai Tak, East Kowloon, and the city’s crowded and towering skyscrapers.
Continuing along the trail after crossing Lun Yan Road, the team reached the top of Beacon Hill marked by the Approach Surveillance Radar Station. After taking a short rest, the team started walking the path downhill to Eagle’s Nest Nature Trail. The trail was a relatively relaxed, shaded walk with a nice panorama of the Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island shrouded in mist.
The team then continued downhill until they finally reached President Ho’s alma mater in So Uk – the Buddhist Tai Hung College. They took a memorable group photo in the campus of the College before concluding the trip with a simple lunch hosted by President Ho.
Throughout the journey, students shared with President Ho their university lives and discussed issues such as career planning and future development of HSUHK, which enhanced understandings between President Ho and students. Students expressed that they had a good time and were eager to join further activities and interact with the President in the future.
