Module Description
This module provides an overview of global logistics management and practices including sourcing, inventory management, distribution, warehousing and transportation. It assists students to understand the key elements of integrated business logistics and their impact on global supply chain performance at strategic and operational levels. This module also helps students to understand and apply logistics concepts, principles and models in the design and operation of global supply chain.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- evaluate the strategic issues of global logistics and supply chain management. Identify the key elements of integrated business logistics and critically analyse their impact on the performance of global supply chains;
- analyse the structure and management of global logistics networks;
- evaluate sourcing and purchasing strategy in global supply chains. Determine appropriate supply contracts in sourcing decisions. Make appropriate decisions in inventory management under conditions of certainty and uncertainty to optimise global supply chain performance;
- determine appropriate transportation mode for global supply chains. Describe the key warehouse processes and storage and handling equipment.
