MSIM3102 - Quality Management with Process Analysis
Year of Study: | 3 |
Credit Units: | 3 |
Duration: | 45hours |
Prerequisites: | STA2001 or AMS1303 or with the Instructor’s permission and upon endorsement of the relevant Chairperson or Programme Director |
Module Description
This module is to serve dual purposes: (1) to equip students with the knowledge of the concepts and the theories of contemporary quality and process management, and (2) to provide the opportunities for students to practice those qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques that are critical for the quality and process analysis and improvement in the business context.
To achieve the stated purposes, this module is divided into two sessions. The first session guides students to comprehend the concepts, the theories and the practices of quality and process management in different business contexts. The second session is designed for students to learn and apply various qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques that are indispensible to the analysis and improvement of quality and processes, such as Fish-bone Analysis, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability (Cpk), Value Stream Mapping, and Little’s Law. The course will also introduce the basic concept of Design of Experiment so as to broaden the students’ knowledge of operational analysis.
