Module Description
This module aims to introduce to students the techniques in mathematical and/or statistical computing and develop students’ ability to solve quantitative business problems with commonly used computer software, for instance MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, EXCEL, R, etc. Students can acquire knowledge in basic functions and operations of computer software through real life problems, case studies and/or projects. The software(s) taught in class vary according to the students’ areas of study and specialty.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- understand the basic knowledge and importance of mathematical and/or statistical computing in various disciplines;
- formulate a business problem as a computer problem; and
- use basic operations and functions of computer software to solve a range of problems in business.
