Module Description
The module is designed to develop students’ proficiency to communicate verbally in Japanese, with emphasis on vocabulary development and basic language functions. The two kana syllabaries, hiragana and katakana, along with some basic characters, are taught as foundation. Upon completion of this module, students are expected to carry out a simple conversation in Japanese. A general introduction to the Japanese culture is also integrated throughout this module.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- master the Japanese script of 46 hiragana characters(ひらがな)and 46 katakana characters(カタカナ), and learn Kanji (漢字) including combinations and variations
- learn basic grammatical structures and the three writing systems
- engage in simple conversations about activities and situations in everyday life
- carry out culture-oriented tasks in social situations
