Module Description
This Module is designed for university freshmen to prepare them for the essential skills in English public speaking. Through instruction, demonstrations and practice, students are expected to develop the basic understanding and confidence to speak in public. In particular, the Module discusses audience awareness in the selection of a topic, the organization of the content of a good speech, the language required in a speech, verbal and non-verbal presentation skills as well as effective delivery by means of visual aids.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- select a topic and related material that engage the audience;
- organize the material for a speech;
- use effective verbal and non-verbal communicative techniques; and
- ask and answer spontaneous follow-up questions.
