AMS3328 - Categorical Data Analysis
Year of Study: | 3 - 4 |
Credit Units: | 3 |
Duration: | 45hours |
Prerequisites: | AMS2320 Business Regression Analysis or with the Instructor’s permission and upon endorsement of the relevant Chairperson or Programme Director. |
Module Description
This module aims to equip students with statistical methods for analysing categorical data
arisen from qualitative response variables which cannot be handled by methods dealing
with quantitative responses. Students can acquire knowledge in statistical theories and
techniques of categorical data analysis such as data analysis in two-way and three-way
contingency tables, generalised linear models, logistic linear models, loglinear models for
contingency tables and matched pair modelling. Applications to business management are
provided.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- understand the concepts and techniques of categorical data analysis;
- understand the statistical theories of generalised linear model and the
statistical inference for logistic regression and loglinear models; - analyse categorical data in two-way and three-way contingency tables,
model response variables by logistic regression and loglinear models and
matched pair by symmetry and quasi-symmetry models; and - solve a business problem with/without the use of computer software and
interpret and present the results in a scientific and concise manner.
