Module Description
This module trains students with practical skills in database management system and introduces several important concepts in data warehousing. First, the module teaches students how to use SQL to interact with a database to retrieve data and perform calculation over a large amount of data. Then, major technologies of data warehousing are discussed, including ETL tools, online analytical processing (OLAP) and visualization, e.g., using dashboard.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- understand what database and data warehouse are;
- formulate SQL queries to interact with a database;
- explain techniques in data warehousing, e.g., OLAP; and
- develop business intelligence (BI) applications using common software, e.g., SAS and PowerBI.
