Prerequisites: | This module aims at providing students with a high-level overview of VR as a communication medium. It allows them to understand and experience the emerging form of new media that supports immersive interaction with objects in an artificial environment created by state-of-the-art computer technologies. The development background and relevant concepts of virtual reality are introduced with potential applications that can be explored to exemplify the feel of immersion in respect of perception, interaction, and adverse effects intrinsic to the virtual environment. Related technology on AR will also be discussed. |
Module Description
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- understand virtual reality regarding its basic concepts, application areas and status of development;
- explain the principles of VR technology that enable users to interact with objects in the virtual environment;
- use virtual reality as an emerging medium to promote communication and immersive experience; and
- determine how various cutting-edge technologies can be assembled for developing and creating an affordable virtual reality environment.
