Module Description
The module covers the media law in Hong Kong. It will also cover major ethical issues facing the Hong Kong media industry professionals. Current developments and trends will be highlighted. The protection of fundamental rights and freedoms will be emphasized throughout the module. Practical day-to-day examples and important court cases will be used as illustrations.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- identify the relationship between media freedom, law and ethics;
- explore how media freedom is protected and what the legitimate restrictions are;
- demonstrate knowledge of the essential laws and the relevant codes of ethics for practitioners of specific media sectors; and
- analyze areas that infringe the law, aspects that jeopardize the integrity of justice and conducts that affect objective reporting.
