HSUHK launches “Outstanding SME ESG and Business Performance Award”

The Start-up and SME Resource Centre of HSUHK organised the “Outstanding SME ESG and Business Performance Award” launching ceremony and “Embracing ESG Initiatives in SMEs: Unlocking Pathways to Sustainable Growth” symposium on 24 September 2024. The award aims to encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to continuously invest resources in practicing ESG upgrades and transformations, thereby enhancing their competitiveness and expanding their green business opportunities.

President Simon Ho; Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience); Mr Andrew Kwok, President of Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Association; and Mr Calvin Cheng, Chairman of Advisory Committee of the Start-up and SME Resource Centre officiated at the launching ceremony.

In his address, President Ho said the society should pay more attention to SMEs and support them, and advised SMEs to incorporate effective ESG practices in their businesses to help them identify different business risks and effectively provide solutions for these risks, and enhance their competitiveness while focusing on the benefits of different stakeholders.

The event ended with a symposium titled “Embracing ESG Initiatives in SMEs: Unlocking Pathways to Sustainable Growth”. Panel speakers including Mr Ping Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Association of China Business; Dr Winson Yeung, Principal Consultant of Occupational Safety and Health Council; Ms Antonia Hui, Corporate Development Director of New House Construction Co Ltd; and Mr Alan Lam, Senior Manager of Vendor Compliance and Sustainability, Cobalt Fashion (Hong Kong) Ltd, shared occupational safety advice and discussed how companies’ business opportunities and competitiveness could be increased by implementing effective ESG initiatives in their daily operations.

The prize presentation ceremony of the Outstanding SME ESG and Business Performance Award will be held in December 2024.
