To promote diverse and inclusive development, as well as create a barrier-free campus, the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management at the School of Decision Sciences and the Big Data Intelligence Centre of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), fully supports Mapxus, a local indoor navigation and positioning service company, by providing a comprehensive digital map that covers the entire campus and indoor floor positioning. Through the CityGeni application (https://www.citygeni.com/) developed by Mapxus, users can accurately navigate across the HSUHK campus. HSUHK is the first educational institution in Hong Kong to provide a complete digital campus map for users, further strengthening its efforts to develop a smart and inclusive campus.

By using CityGeni, users can enjoy precise navigation experiences across HSUHK’s campus. This app includes detailed information, such as the names of buildings, facilities, and floor positioning, with automatic navigation. It also features a text-to-voice mode to assist individuals with special needs and provides barrier-free routes.

In addition to the aforementioned project, the Department of Supply Chain and Information
Management at HSUHK will develop the “Mapxus STEM” (tentative name) kit with Mapxus. This initiative is supported in part by the Enhancement and Start-up Grant Scheme of the Education Bureau for a four-year “Teaching Smart Decision Analytics for Supply Chain and Information Management Programme Enhancement” project, with funding of over HK$17 million. Big Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) will also be incorporated into the curriculum of Supply Chain Management and Management Science and Information Management programmes to develop indoor geographic information systems further. Students will utilise the “Mapxus STEM” package and sensors to learn how to integrate elements such as humidity, temperature, and infrared sensors into digital maps and, in doing so, contribute to the beginning of a new chapter in smart city development. 

Dr Daniel Mo, project coordinator and Associate Dean (Engagement and Undergraduate Studies) of the School of Decision Sciences said, “We are excited to provide Mapxus with indoor digital maps to promote the construction of smart cities together. Additionally, the University is committed to cultivating talent who will serve the community with a sense of social responsibility. The ‘Mapxus STEM’ kit allows students to put what they have learned into practice and provides them with valuable experience to explore more innovative technology applications.”

Dr Jack Wu, project coordinator and the Programme Director of the Bachelor of Management Science and Information Management (Honours) Programme, also expressed hope that students will acquire the relevant knowledge and skills in intelligent decision analysis, use of spatial data, practical experience in decision analysis, and professional recognition and certification, thereby giving them a richer learning experience.
