6 June 2023
Since its inception in the 2014-15 academic year, the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (formerly known as HSMC Teaching Excellence Awards) have acknowledged the efforts of more than 40 faculty members who went above and beyond in their teaching practices to enhance their students’ learning experience.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted the HSUHK Teaching and Learning Forum 2023 on 6 June to celebrate teaching excellence and recognise the invaluable contributions of our distinguished teachers. Themed ‘Teaching Excellence: Transform to Perform’, the Centre was honoured to have invited the award recipients of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards and distinguished guests from local institutions who shared their exemplary and innovative teaching practices.
Officiating the opening ceremony, Professor Simon Ho, President of the HSUHK, delivered a heartfelt speech expressing his sincere gratitude towards all award recipients for their exceptional contribution and unwavering dedication to teaching at HSUHK. Throughout the event, HSUHK speakers from various departments and schools, as well as guest speakers from other local institutes were invited to deliver and share their experiences and insights at respective forums and parallel sessions.
Dr Ben Cheng, Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, also announced the launch of My Teaching Story – Teaching Excellence: Transform to Perform, a special publication which is a collection of 26 stories from HSUHK Teaching Awards’ recipients from 2017-18 to 2021-22 academic years. These stories capture the teaching journeys of distinguished teachers and the learning journey of novice teachers transforming into exemplary educators.
The Centre was pleased to have representatives from each School deliver introductory remarks for each forum and parallel session. Representatives included Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience) cum Head of the Department of the Management of the School of Business; Dr Paul Fung, Head of the Department of English, The School of Humanities and Social Science; Dr Shelby Chan, Associate Dean of the School of Translation and Foreign Languages; Dr Thomas Man, Associate Dean (Enterprise and Business Engagement) of the School of Business; Professor Ronald Chiu, Associate Dean of the School of Communication; and Professor Choy Siu Kai, Associate Dean (Research) of the School of Decision and Science. The forums were an essential event for educators, as the sharing and exchange of views at each forum and parallel session aimed to shaped a dynamic and engaging learning environment and encourage innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
To show the Centre’s appreciation, Professor Fu presented souvenirs to each award-winning teacher and invited speaker. The Centre also prepared a celebratory video that included congratulatory messages from the HSUHK Senior Management and Deans of the Schools to commemorate the event. The opening ceremony was attended by over 100 distinguished guests, including representatives from local UGC universities, educational institutes, principals, and representatives from secondary schools and colleges, alongside HSUHK staff members.
