Under the Augmented Reality Public Art Initiative project, two events were co-organised by the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Cultural and Creative Industries Programme of the School of Humanities and Social Science of HSMC and the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) on 24 and 26 Mar 2018 respectively – International Symposium on Augmented Reality Public Art (cum Opening of Exhibition) and Public Lecture Theory and Practice of AR Art by Tamiko Thiel (cum Opening of Exhibition).
The International Symposium cum Opening of Exhibition, held at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, was officiated by President Simon S M Ho of HSMC and Mr Chan Shing Wai, Acting Deputy Director of LCSD. The exhibition featured augmented reality public art creations by eight local and overseas artists – Professor Tamiko Thiel, Professor Desmond Hui, Mr Chris Cheung, Ms Helen Pun, Ms Phoebe Man, Ms Ellen Pau, Dr Cédric Maridet and Professor John Craig Freeman. Professor Tamiko Thiel, the keynote speaker, and seven other participating artists introduced their work created for the project and shared their experiences and views on augmented reality public art.
Highlights of the International Symposium cum Opening of Exhibition
The Public Lecture by Professor Tamiko Thiel cum Opening of Exhibition, held at HSMC, was officiated by Professor Gilbert Fong, Provost of HSMC and Dr Lesley Lau, Head of the Art Promotion Office of LCSD. During the public lecture, Professor Tamiko Thiel, Visiting Professor of Augmented Reality at the University of Art and Design Linz, Austria, explained the theory and practice of augmented reality art and her work in the last decade, including Gardens of the Anthropocene and Water Lily Invasion which were created for the event.
