HSMC held Seminar on Further Studies at Self-financed Tertiary Institutions
“Pathway to Further Studies atSelf-financed Tertiary Institutions” seminar was staged by the Communicationsand Public Affairs Office on 15 November 2014. A total of 200 secondary schoolstudents, their parents and teachers attended the seminar which focused on thedevelopment of self-financed tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.
Professor Simon Ho, HSMC President, MrNg Po-Shing, Vice Director of Student Guidance Centre of Hok Yau Club, MrRonald Chiu, Executive Director of i-CABLE News Limited & i-CABLE SportsLimited and Mr Garrick Lau, Head of Talent Acquisition and Development ofHopewell Holding Limited were the guest speakers. They shared their valuable insighton various aspects of self-financed tertiary institutions.
Professor Simon Ho addressed thatself-financed tertiary institutions played an important role on Hong Konghigher education development. Emphasising “Liberal+Professional” liberal artseducation model, HSMC has been providing high quality education opportunitiesto youngsters in Hong Kong.
Mr Ng pinpointed that the launch ofGovernmentRecognition and Support – Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions /Sectors (SSSDP) and progressively increased number ofenquiries was the evidence of the rising demandand social recognition for self-financed degree courses.
Mr. Ronald Chiu and Mr. Lau gave analysisof the market trend and talent demand. They both agreed that interview and workperformance were the main parameters for selecting right candidates, sograduates from self-financed tertiary institutions had the same competitivenesscompared with the others.
The seminar conveyed a clear pictureof current situation of self-financed tertiary institutions and its developmentbetween students, parents and teachers.
