HSMC held Grand Opening Ceremony of the new academic building Block A

To fulfill the rapid development of the College, HSMC had launched the Campus Expansion Master Plan. A grand Opening Ceremony of the new academic building was held on 23rd Nov, 2012. Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor GBS, JP was invited to officiate the ceremony. Mrs. Margaret Leung Ko May Yee, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors, HSMC Board members, HSMC managements and other prominent community leaders were also invited as honored guests.

Mrs. Margaret Leung delivered a welcoming speech to express her sincere gratitude to the generous donors. She also stated that the completion of the new building within a year was a breakthrough. She hoped that the remaining four phases of campus expansion could be successful, in order to provide an excellent learning environment for students.

President Dr Chui Hong Sheung introduced the state-of-the-art facilities in Block A, including the new library with almost 4,000 square meters floor space, a Decision Sciences Technology Laboratory, a Mock Trading floor and a Conference Hall equipped with simultaneous interpretation facilities. “We appreciate the great support from the Government and many others (including the Efficiency unit, EDB, Wong & Ouyang (HK) Limited and Kaden Construction Limited), without which, the completion of the building would have been impossible.” Dr Chui remarked.

Mrs Carrie Lam stated that the complete facilities and the excellent learning environment will lay the foundation for HSMC to become a private university. She hoped that the College could cultivate more business experts and continue to contribute to the society.

The Opening Ceremony began after the speeches. Mrs. Margaret Leung, Members of HSMC Board of Governors including Mr. Martin Tam, Dr. Ho Tzu Leung and Dr. Moses Cheng, President Dr. Chui Hong Sheung and Provost Professor Gilbert Fong, together with Mrs. Carrie Lam, hosted the plaque unveiling ceremony and cut the ribbon.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to join the campus tour guided by student ambassadors.

Several local media and hundreds of HSMC staff and students were present to witness the cheerful moment.

President Dr Chui Hong Sheung thanked the effort from different departments of HSMC.	Mrs. Carrie Lam hopes the College could module more business experts and contributes to the society.
