Beam Society visited HSMC
Beam Society visited Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) on 26 August 2013. Mr. Martin Tam, Member of Board of Governors, Ms. Suzanne Chan, Vice-Chairman of Finance Committee of HSMC, Prof. Gilbert Fong, Acting President, Dr. Karen Chan, Vice President, Prof. Scarlet Tso, Associate Vice-President and more than 70 members of Beam Society attended the event.
BEAM Society Limited is a non-profit organization committed to developing environmental assessment tools and training professionals in order to assess buildings regarding the aspects of land, water and energy use. HSMC applied sufficient environmental elements in the process of constructing its new campus. In particular, we planted bamboos all over the campus and used bamboo-made furniture to provide a nature friendly environment for our students, which has reached the highest standard of BEAM Society’s assessments.
During his speech, Prof. Fong expressed his views about how humans should coexist with the nature in harmony. Prof. Fong also accredited Mr. Tam for his insistence on using bamboo while developing the campus. Mr. Tam then explained how HSMC saves energy during construction and how environmental-friendly concepts are applied to new buildings. He also introduced the advantages of using bamboo as architectural materials which greatly benefited the audience.
The event ended with a campus tour by Mr. Edmond Lo, Project Manager of Campus Development Office, who led the guests to the roof garden, classrooms and the library at Block A Academic Building.
