The third guest lecture cum networking with tutors was organised by the Department o fAccountancy on 9 February 2017. Mr Edwin Chow Chi-kwan, Superintendent, Head of Joint Financial Intelligence Unit (JFIU) of Hong Kong Police and Mr Ryan Man,Senior Inspector of Police, JFIU, Hong Kong Police delivered a guest lecture on “Anti-Money Laundering and Suspicious Transaction Reporting”.
In the guest lecture, Mr Ryan Man explained what money laundering was and introduced some common measures adopted in many countries / jurisdictions to tackle money laundering,terrorist financing and other related threats to the international financial system.
He then introduced Joint Financial Intelligence Unit (JFIU), a unit jointly formed by Hong Kong Police Force and the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department. He illustrateda nti-money laundering related regulations in Hong Kong with examples. Attendees learnt how to report a suspicious transaction to JFIU and apply the SAFE approach to lower the risk of money laundering. The guest lecture ended with an interactive Q&A session in which a lot of students raised questions.
Networking with tutors meetings then followed. Personal tutors from the Department of Accountancy met their tutees and answered students’ questions regarding career planning and personal development.
Guest Lecture cum Networking with Tutors #3 was successfully held with an attendance of more than 50 staff and students. Positive feedbacks were received, including the guest lecture being informative and useful with many examples provided to explain different concepts and situation.
