The first HSMC Summer Academy (The Academy) was held on 2-3 July 2016. It has been a big success and has attracted over a hundred S4 and S5 students from local secondary schools to participate. The Academy aimed to nurture students’ interests and talents in various fields, such as Business, Computing and Decision Sciences,Media and Communications, and Languages and Cultures through a two-day experimental event.
President Simon S M HO expressed his warm welcome to the participants at the opening ceremony and shared the latest development of HSMC with them. After that, participants joined the ice-breaking activities led by the HSMC student ambassadors and enjoyed the games.
In the afternoon, participants attended the different academic activities which were designed with four different themes. In lessons, games and workshops, they became anchors, translators,logistics specialists, programmers, financial analysts, global managers,marketing experts and data analysts. It was also a perfect chance for them to explore Chinese and Asian cultures. With the aim of tasting residential college life, participants stayed the night at HSMC Jockey Club Residential Colleges – Mosaic College and Wellness College.
The Academy came to an end after the closing ceremony on 3 July 2016. Two honourable guests: Associate Vice-President Scarlet Tso (Communications and Public Affairs) and Professor Tang Man Lai, Chairman of the Task Force on Summer Academy 2016, were invited to present certificates to participants who completed the Summer Academy as a token of appreciation.
The first Summer Academy ended with a big round of applause. The College hopes that all participants were able to discover their talents and interests through this event and to have a better understanding of HSMC on various aspects, including its undergraduate programmes, campus facilities and unique Residential Colleges.
