On 19 April 2016, Arts at HSMC presenteda culturally fused music performance with five artists of international standing, namely, Professor Vadim Mazo, Associate Professor of Illinois Wesleyan University, USA and world renowned Russian violinist, Ms Xing Lu, famous Chinese erhuperformer, Dr Cheng Wai, renowned Hong Kong pianist, Mr Meidad Yehudayan, internationally acclaimed Israeli violist, as well as Ms Park Si Won, Korean cellist and a member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. This programme was supported by the Sin Wai Kin Chinese Culture Promotion Scheme.
The evening of “East meets West” began with Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor jointly performed by Professor Mazo and members of HSMC Sinfonietta. The audience was enchanted by the opuses from East and West beautifully played with a mix of erhu and western musical instruments. Masterpieces such as Zigeunerweisen, Fisherman’s Songand The Butterfly Lovers were presented. Moreover, Hong Kong composer Dr Ng Wah Hei was invited to introduce his newly composed piece Suite that had its world premiere in this concert. With rounds of applause from the audience, the five artists played an encore of the Yellow River Concerto and brought the spectacular evening to a perfect ending.
